MBE CPAs Data Breach: Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the MBE CPAs data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
MBE CPAs Security Incident: What Happened?
MBE CPAs, an accounting firm with locations in Arizona, Colorado, Nebraska and Wisconsin, is notifying individuals about a data breach that may have resulted in the exposure of personal information.
Data exposed in the MBE CPAs data breach varies by individual, according to a sample notice letter (seen below), and a report submitted to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation indicates that Social Security numbers and financial account information may have been compromised.
MBE CPAs had previously posted a notice on its website dated July 10, 2024 about a data breach first detected on April 18. The notice said that the accounting firm would review affected systems to determine what data may have been exposed and identify affected individuals, but that the process remained "ongoing." It was further stated that affected individuals would be notified by mail if their information was involved.
What You Can Do
If your information was exposed in the data breach, attorneys want to hear from you. You may be able to start a class action lawsuit to recover compensation for loss of privacy, time spent dealing with the breach, out-of-pocket costs, and more.
A successful case could also force MBE CPAs to ensure it takes proper steps to protect the information it was entrusted with.
