On September 26, 2024, Community Clinic of Maui, Inc., which operates as Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center, disclosed a cybersecurity incident that disrupted network connectivity. The breach, detected on May 7, 2024, was investigated with the involvement of law enforcement and external cybersecurity professionals.
Initial findings have revealed that unauthorized access to the clinic's network occurred between May 4 and May 7, 2024. Sensitive personal data, including names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver's license/state ID numbers, passport numbers, financial account details, credit/debit card information, login information and biometric data, may have been compromised, according to a notice posted on the Maui healthcare provider's website. Medical information exposed in the Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center data breach may include treatment information, diagnoses, treatment cost details and prescription information.
Mālama I Ke Ola Health Center is now notifying affected individuals, with a report submitted to the Maine Attorney General's Office stating that 123,882 people are impacted.
