A July 24, 2026 post on dark web monitoring platform Ransomware.live states that hacker group Qilin claimed to be responsible for the alleged attack, which is estimated to have occurred on the same day. HookPhish, another cybersecurity blog, similarly reported that Qilin was behind the possible attack on July 24.
At the time this post was made, no additional information about the scope or nature of the unconfirmed Kean University data breach was available.
