Huron Regional Medical Center Security Incident: What Happened?
On September 9, 2025, Huron Regional Medical Center, Inc. reported that it had suffered a data breach involving patient information. On or around May 31, 2025, the South Dakota hospital detected unusual activity within its network and launched an investigation, engaging forensic experts to assess the situation. By August 21, 2025, the hospital identified individuals whose sensitive data might have been compromised.
The information exposed in the Huron Regional Medical Center data breach varies by individual but may include names, addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, dates and cost of service, health insurance information, lab results, medical diagnostic images, prescription information, Medicare/Medicaid numbers, diagnoses and treatment information. A sample data breach letter (seen below) states that Social Security numbers and financial account information may have also been affected.
Huron Regional Medical Center is notifying affected individuals for whom it has valid mailing addresses.
