Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the HMG Healthcare data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who received a notice stating they were impacted.
HMG Healthcare, LLC sent notification letters and issued a press release regarding a data breach of personal health information. The breach occurred in August 2023 and affected residents and employees at HMG-affiliated nursing facilities, a list of which can be found on the company's website.
According to HMG's data breach notice, hackers gained unauthorized access to a server containing unencrypted files, including medical records and personal information. Though HMG determined that it "is not feasible" to identify the specific data that was compromised, the notice states that the exposed information may have included names, dates of birth, contact information, general health information, medical treatment details, Social Security numbers and employment records.
Though HMG did not indicate the nature of the cyberattack, media reports speculate as to whether it was a ransomware incident.
