Hispanic Counseling Center Security Incident: What Happened?
Hispanic Counseling Center (HCC), a mental health, addiction recovery and community services organization supporting the Latino community on Long Island, New York, has reported a data breach in connection with a third-party electronic medical records vendor used by the healthcare provider.
A sample notification letter sent to potentially affected individuals, which is shown below, states that Accumedic Computer Systems, the vendor used by HCC, alerted the healthcare provider that it had become aware of suspicious activity within its own network on June 8, 2026.
Following an investigation into the activity, Accumedic determined on August 7 that an unauthorized party gained access to its systems on or around April 8 and then potentially obtained data stored therein between June 4 and June 8, 2026. Accumedic then confirmed with HCC on September 1 that the compromised files may have contained personal information belonging to its clients.
According to an October 30 report filed with the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation, the Hispanic Counseling Center data breach affected Social Security numbers and medical records.
The sample notice letter indicates that names were also potentially impacted by the HCC data breach.
