Hawaii Family Dental Security Incident: What Happened?
Hawaii Family Dental, a 12-office general and cosmetic dentistry practice across four Hawaiian Islands, has reported a data breach involving sensitive patient information.
According to a notice posted to its website, Hawaii Family Dental discovered that an unauthorized person had used a compromised account to access patient data on July 19 and July 20, 2026. An investigation into the incident revealed that the practice had experienced a cyberattack during which a threat actor may have had access to certain systems storing patient information.
Information that may have been exposed during the Hawaii Family Dental data breach includes names, dates of birth, phone numbers, email addresses, mailing addresses, dental insurance information and portions of medical and dental treatment information.
An August 21, 2026 report submitted to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) states that the incident impacted 45,853 individuals.
Prior to the official disclosure, hacker group Qilin claimed to be responsible for an attack on Hawaii Family Dental, according to a July 31 post on dark web monitoring site Ransomware.live.
