Energy Capital Credit Union Security Incident: What Happened?
Energy Capital Credit Union (ECCU), a Houston-based financial institution, is notifying individuals about a late 2024 data breach involving unauthorized network access. This incident potentially exposed personal data between October 29 and November 19, 2024. Upon discovery of the data breach, ECCU initiated an investigation with cybersecurity experts and informed law enforcement. A manual review of the affected data was also conducted.
By December 4, 2025, it was determined that the compromised files might include names, Social Security numbers, tax IDs, driver’s license/government ID numbers, dates of birth, financial account information, credit and debit card details, health insurance information and limited medical data. Those affected by the Energy Capital Credit Union data breach should receive notice of the incident via mail provided the company has their address information.
