El Camino Health Data Breach: Lawsuit Investigation
Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the El Camino Health data breach.
As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who had their information exposed in the incident, including those who received notice of the El Camino Health data breach or otherwise believe they are affected.
El Camino Health Security Incident: What Happened?
El Camino Health, a healthcare system operating two acute care hospitals and multiple medical offices in Santa Clara County, California, has reported a data breach that may have exposed sensitive patient information.
According to a notice posted to its website, El Camino Health identified unusual activity in its Microsoft 365 system on September 1, 2026.
Following an investigation into the activity with forensic experts, the healthcare provider determined that an unauthorized party gained intermittent access to four employee Microsoft 365 accounts between August 26 and September 2, 2026. During this time, certain documents containing sensitive patient information were copied or downloaded from the accounts.
An ongoing review of the El Camino Health data breach has revealed that the incident may have exposed names, contact information, demographic information, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, dates of birth, medical record numbers, patient account numbers, diagnosis information, treatment information, prescription information, provider names, dates of service, health insurance information and, for some patients, financial account and routing numbers. The degree of information exposed varied by individual.
El Camino Health began notifying potentially affected patients on October 30; a sample notice letter is shown below. The healthcare provider will mail notification letters to any additional patients whose information was potentially compromised once the company's review of the affected documents is complete.
El Camino Health stated in its online notice that its electronic health record system was not impacted by the incident.
