Casner & Edwards Security Incident: What Happened?
Boston-based Casner & Edwards, LLP, a law firm serving businesses, individuals, and institutions across New England and globally, recently reported a data breach impacting its computer network. On April 10, 2024, unauthorized access by external actors was detected. The firm, whose practice areas include bankruptcy, family law, mergers and acquisitions, and more, launched an inquiry with cybersecurity specialists.
The investigation revealed that the Casner & Edwards data breach, occurring between March 21 and March 23, 2024, may have exposed certain files. A review identified potentially affected individuals and the type of data at risk. This process concluded on April 24, 2025. According to a document submitted to the Maine Attorney General's Office, data possibly accessed includes names, Social Security numbers, financial account details, payment card information, and driver's license numbers.
Casner & Edwards, LLP is sending personalized notices about the data breach, which is reported to have affected 12,979 people.
