Brightmoor Hospice Security Incident: What Happened?
Brightmoor Hospice, a Georgia-based hospice company and elderly care provider, has reported a data breach that may have exposed sensitive information.
According to an October 16, 2026 notice provided to PR Newswire, Brightmoor discovered suspicious activity related to two employee email accounts on or around March 25 of the same year. Following an investigation with third-party specialists, the healthcare provider determined that two employee email accounts were accessed without authorization between March 24 and March 25, 2026.
On August 18, Brightmoor completed its review of the affected data and concluded that certain patients' information was present within the compromised email accounts. Personal information, such as names, addresses, Social Security numbers, driver's license information and dates of birth, was potentially impacted.
The Brightmoor Hospice data breach also involved protected health information, including patients' identification numbers, diagnoses, medical history information, medical record numbers, medical treatment information, lab information, treating doctor's names, medication information, vaccination information, medical insurance information and family and social history information. The degree of personal and protected health information exposed in the incident varied by individual.
Brightmoor began notifying potentially affected individuals by mail on October 16, 2026.
