Best Collateral Security Incident: What Happened?
Best Collateral, Inc., which has eight pawn shops in the San Francisco Bay Area and Northern California, announced that it experienced a security incident potentially affecting the personal information of its customers and employees.
According to Best Collateral’s online notice, suspicious activity on its internal network was first identified around January 17, 2025, prompting an investigation and the retention of an independent cybersecurity firm to assist with the response. The investigators concluded around February 10 that certain data files containing personal information might have been obtained without proper authorization.
The Best Collateral data breach may have compromised customers’ names, driver’s license numbers, military identification numbers and biometric information. Affected employee data may have included names, health insurance policy details and Social Security numbers.
