Beacon Pointe Security Incident: What Happened?
Beacon Pointe Advisors, LLC, an investment advisory firm with four offices in New York state, is informing clients of a data breach involving unauthorized access to its IT network. On February 1, 2026, Beacon Pointe Advisors discovered the incident, which took place from January 30 to February 1. They enlisted a cybersecurity firm to investigate and secured the network while alerting custodians to protect client accounts.
According to The Register, the breach, reportedly claimed by groups known as ShinyHunters and Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters, is part of a series of attacks affecting multiple firms. The attackers threatened to leak millions of records if a resolution wasn’t reached.
Beacon Pointe Advisors reported to the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation that compromised information might include Social Security numbers, financial account details, and driver's license numbers.
