Astrana Health Security Incident: What Happened?
Astrana Health, a California-based physician support and healthcare technology company, has reported a cybersecurity incident in a Form 8-K filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on September 23, 2026.
Per the SEC filing, Astrana Health recently became aware that its subsidiary Astrana Health Management—which handles the company's administration and management services—detected unusual activity within its environment.
Specifically, the filing describes a series of social engineering attempts in which threat actors deceived certain employees by impersonating company personnel and spoofing its corporate phone number with the goal of obtaining unauthorized access to company systems.
While Astrana Health is still investigating the incident with cybersecurity and digital forensics experts, preliminary findings suggest that unauthorized parties accessed some private and/or confidential information stored on its servers. The investigation will determine whether, and to what extent, any patient, employee, credentialed provider or other business information was accessed, acquired or exfiltrated during the Astrana Health data breach.
The company has reported that once the investigation into the incident and evaluation of its scope has concluded, it will make notifications based on its findings, including to any impacted patients.
