Renu Moisture Loc

Renu Moisture Loc

Manufactured by Bausch & Lomb, ReNu Moisture Loc contact lens solution has been linked to a dangerous fungal eye infection. In April 2006, the company suspended shipments of ReNu Moisture Loc after several users reported fungal keratitis infections. Then in May 2006, the FDA recalled ReNu Moisture Loc.

Fungal keratitis develops in the cornea and can require lengthy drug treatment. If keratitis cannot be treated with antifungal drugs, the contact lens wearer may have to undergo surgery to remove fungal lesions. In addition, approximately one-third of contact lens users with this eye infection have undergone corneal transplants. If fungal keratitis is not treated, it can result in blindness. Fungal keratitis symptoms include eye pain and discomfort, sensitivity to light and decreased vision.

Bausch & Lomb failed to report 35 cases of fungal keratits in Singapore which were linked to ReNu Moisture Loc within the given 35 days for most products imported from the United States. In addition, the manufacturer waited almost a year to report the product’s association with this dangerous eye infection. More than 200 cases of fungal keratitis were reported the CDC and FDA, with 73 infections associated with ReNu Moisture Loc.
