Medical Devices:

Avaulta Vaginal Mesh Complications Include Infection, Mesh Erosion, Pain

ClassAction.org Alert
This Alert Affects:
Women who were implanted with an Avaulta vaginal sling, including the Avaulta Solo, Avaulta Plus and Avaulta Biosynthetic, during pelvic prolapse repair surgery.
Damages: Patients suffering from Avaulta vaginal mesh side effects and POP mesh complications have complained of mesh infection, inflammation and pain during sex. Other transvaginal mesh complications may include mesh erosion through the vaginal wall, permanent nerve damage, pelvic pain, and deformation and scarring of the vaginal tissues.
Company(ies): The Avaulta surgical mesh is manufactured by C.R. Bard Inc.
Additional Details: The Avaulta vaginal sling is a mesh kit which is implanted in the anterior or posterior vaginal compartment during vaginal prolapse surgery. This pelvic mesh is used in women suffering from pelvic organ prolapse, a condition in which the pelvic organs, such as the bladder, uterus, rectum or vagina, slip out of place.
Date: An Avaulta recall has not yet been issued, but the FDA released a warning in October 2008 about the serious complications of transvaginal mesh products. Then, in July 2011, it updated its vaginal mesh complications warning to inform patients and doctors that the surgical placement of mesh through the vagina can put pelvic organ prolapse repair patients at a greater risk of mesh complications than those selecting other surgical options.

Avaulta Transvaginal Mesh

Avaulta Transvaginal Mesh

The FDA has announced that women implanted with the Bard Avaulta surgical mesh may be at risk for serious complications, including mesh erosion, infection and pelvic pain. The FDA has received more than 1000 complaints of vaginal mesh complications from nine different surgical mesh companies, including C.R. Bard which manufactures the Avaulta Solo, Avaulta Plus and Avaulta Biosynthetic. Although the agency first described these Avaulta mesh problems as rare, it has since advised the public that pelvic organ prolapse repair patients who are implanted through the vagina with a surgical mesh had a greater risk of developing mesh complications than those pursuing other surgical treatments.

If you or a loved one has suffered Avaulta mesh side effects, you may be able to recover compensation for medical bills, pain and suffering, and other damages incurred as a result of your surgical mesh complications. Avaulta Vaginal Mesh Side Effects

Many women who were implanted with the Avaulta vaginal mesh believed that their transvaginal mesh side effects were normal until the FDA released a warning in October 2008. This warning cited a startling number of complaints from women who were implanted with a transvaginal mesh product, including the Avaulta vaginal sling, during a vaginal prolapse operation. The complaints cited a number of surgical mesh complications including the following:

  • Pain
  • Urinary problems
  • Recurrence of pelvic organ prolapse
  • Vaginal scarring
  • Inflammation
  • Mesh erosion
  • Pelvic pain

The FDA noted that in some cases, vaginal scarring and mesh erosion led to a decreased quality of life due to discomfort and pain during sex. Still, the FDA decided to refrain from requesting an Avaulta recall.

Avaulta Mesh System: Mesh Repair for Prolapse

The Avaulta Bard mesh was designed for use in women suffering from pelvic organ prolapse, a condition in which a pelvic organ drops from its normal position and pushes against the vaginal walls. During mesh surgery, the sling is implanted in the anterior or posterior vaginal compartment. The Avaulta mesh and other vaginal mesh repair systems have improved the lives of women suffering from pelvic organ prolapse. However, in treating one health problem, many patients claim that they have been exposed to other, more serious side effects, such as vaginal mesh erosion. If you have undergone a transvaginal tape procedure and suffered an Avaulta side effect, such as an eroded mesh, it's important to speak with an attorney to discuss your legal options. Avaulta Transvaginal Mesh Lawsuits

Each Avaulta vaginal mesh lawsuit filed against C.R. Bard involves similar allegations. C.R. Bard has been blamed for failing to warn doctors and patients of the possible side effects of the Avaulta vaginal sling in women seeking bladder repair with a mesh. C.R. Bard has also been accused of designing a defective surgical mesh; it is believed that the trans vaginal mesh prevents the surrounding tissue from obtaining oxygen and nutrients, which can interfere with the healing process. This may lead to the development of surgical mesh complications, requiring the need for an additional surgery to remove the pubovaginal sling.

If you have experienced Avaulta mesh problems, you may be able to participate in a transvaginal mesh lawsuit to recover financial compensation for your suffering. Our surgical mesh lawyers are offering a no cost case evaluation to those implanted with a vaginal mesh, as well as loved ones acting on their behalf. This online legal consultation is offered at no cost and can determine whether you can participate in an Avaulta transvaginal mesh lawsuit.
