Rooms to Go Facing Fraud Class Action Over Fabric Protection Treatments

Triplett v. Rooms To Go North Carolina Corp., et al
Filed: December 1, 2016 ◆§ 5:16-cv-00926-FL
Five Rooms to Go furniture franchises are the defendants in a class action over fabric protection treatments.
Five Rooms to Go furniture franchises are the defendants in a class action claiming the fourth largest furniture retailer in the U.S. sold “ForceField Fabric/Leather Protection Plans” to customers even though the furniture that was purchased was not actually treated with any protectant. The plaintiff claims testing shows certain products showed no presence of any leather or fabric protectant even though the defendant sold furniture with its add-on ForceField Fabric/Leather Protection Plans.
The lawsuit alleges the defendants pressure their sales staff to sell the ForceField Protection plans while promising customers that their furniture will be professionally treated before delivery. “This does not occur. [The defendants] often fail to treat customers’ furniture with ForceField protectant, or apply the product in a manner that will not cover all appropriate surfaces, and that is not consistent with the product’s instructions,” the lawsuit argues.
