TD Bank Retires Coin-Counting Machines
TD Bank has announced that it will be discontinuing its Penny Arcades after several lawsuits accused the bank of shortchanging its customers. We wrote about the lawsuits before, but it looks like the scrutiny the bank has since faced has led it to pack up its coin-counting machines for good.
Facebook Privacy Case Update
A lawsuit against Facebook over privacy violations (allegedly scanning links in private messages) is being allowed to proceed as a class action in seeking a warning against Facebook – but potential class members will have to pursue monetary relief on their own. Judge Phyllis J. Hamilton determined that the members of the proposed class didn’t suffer the same amount and, therefore, damages will have to be determined on an individual basis.
Kellogg Accused of Deceptively Marketing “Whole-Grain” Cheez-Its
Kellogg has been hit with a proposed class action claiming that it falsely advertises its whole-grain Cheez-Its. The lawsuit claims that the crackers don’t actually contain whole grains (and are actually made from enriched white flour) and that consumers have been misled into buying a seemingly healthier product. The lawsuit argues that Cheez-Its’ competitors, which include Nabisco’s Wheat Thins and Pepperidge Farm’s Goldfish, are sold under the same claims, but are made up mostly of whole grain flour.
Hair Relaxer Lawsuits
Women who developed ovarian or uterine cancer after using hair relaxers such as Dark & Lovely and Motions may now have an opportunity to take legal action.
